A Front desk agent is an employee that works in a variety of departments within a hotel or other hospitality business. They often handle cash, receive, and transmit payments, keep track of guest accounts, and maintain a record of various guest’s rooms. This type of position is considered entry-level within the hospitality sector and therefore many candidates apply for employment. As such, Front desk jobs in Canada tend to be competitive and well paid.

Generally, Front desk agents work in the hospitality industry whereby they assist guests at their rooms and help them prepare for their stay. The most desired qualifications in a Front desk agent are courtesy, organization and computer skills, attention to detail, computer expertise and understanding of the job details. 

Typically, a Front desk agent will have a number of responsibilities; being an important contact for both clients and hosts, greeting guests, answering guest queries and concerns, and assisting with scheduling and reservations. In order to succeed as a front desk agent, it is important to display good customer service skills and be organized with a friendly attitude.

The job duties of a Front desk agent do not always entail the same level of detail as the typical office job. For instance, some Front desk jobs involve answering telephones and greeting guests, while others involve conducting research or tracking client records.

Generally, when a guest calls or visits a Front desk location, it is the Front desk agent that contacts the guest and helps facilitate their visit by providing them with all the necessary information regarding the visit including the time they called, where they were invited and what they were told to expect.

Additionally, they may provide any other relevant assistance depending upon the requirements of the client. As you can see, the main purpose of the Front desk agent is to ensure that guests have a pleasant experience when they arrive at a particular location.
